Cigarette smuggling on the rise as the year ends and it is not easy for the State agents to fight it in southwester provinces and cities such as Long An and HCM City.
Cigarette smuggling has caused a loss of thousands of billions of Vietnamese dong each year for the state, according to figures released by the Viet Nam Tobacco Association at a symposium held on Monday in Can Tho.
The domestic tobacco industry hopes that the Government can be more
effective in fighting an impending surge in smuggling that causes losses
amounting to trillions of dong to the State Budget.
The fight against cross-border smuggling is complicated by several
factors including wrongdoings in anti-trafficking operations, officials
admitted at a conference yesterday.
